Calabar High School’s Jaheim Rankine (front) celebrates scoring the lone goal of the ISSA Manning Cup football game against St Andrew Technical High School at Calabar High School on Saturday.

When St Jago High play host to Tivoli Gardens High today in Zone E action of the ISSA Manning Cup football competition, both teams will be keenly aware that any slip-up could spell the death of their second-round ambitions.

St Jago and Tivoli are embroiled in a three-horse race for one of two automatic second-round spots, along with zone leaders Wolmer's Boys'.

Wolmer's sit atop the zone with a maximum 21 points from seven games, with Tivoli in second on 18 and St Jago third with 15.

With only three games remaining in the first round, all three teams are aware any dropped points could see them falling down the rankings should their rivals have favourable results.

St Jago have recovered from their slow start to the season and are enjoying an impressive five-game win streak, which saw them rising all the way from the foot of the table.

A win would see them jump to second in the zone, as they would pull level on points with Tivoli but boast the better goal difference.

The team from west Kingston, Tivoli, will be hoping to continue their impressive form and stretch their unbeaten run to four games.

Tivoli enter the fixture fresh off a 10-1 demolition of Denham Town High and will be looking to keep the pressure on zone leaders Wolmer's.

Three points for Tivoli would see them moving six points clear of St Jago and in a comfortable position to advance to the next round.

Tivoli will also be confident they can do the double over St Jago, having already won the reverse fixture 1-0.

The Wolmerians will also be keeping a close eye on today's fixture before their game against Edith Dalton James High tomorrow.

A win for Tivoli would mean Wolmer's would only require a point from their remaining three games to advance, while a St Jago win would keep all three teams in contention.

The game is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m.
