Levee gaining coaching experience with Real Mona
Former Harbour View FC midfielder and national player John Luca Levee will be adding to his coaching experience, having taken up a part-time role with Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Championship League club Real Mona FC.
Levee explained the opportunity came about because of his long-standing relationship with Real Mona FC and their partners, Kingston Football Academy.
He had represented Real Mona at the U13 and U15 age-group competitions before leaving for Spain during his formative years.
"I've been involved with the coaching and helping out part-time, and Real Mona is also the first club I've ever played for," he explained.
"I started playing for Real Mona when I was 10 years old and I played three years in the U13 and I won the U13 championship with Real Mona. Then I played U15 for two years, also, before going away to Spain."
Levee sees his part-time role as an opportunity to build on his coaching experience, having completed his coaching C Licence earlier this year.
"I have started my licensing process. I completed the C Licence in April, so this is something I really want to continue with," he confirmed.
Alongside his coaching role, Levee will also continue his playing career at Real Mona, as he is expected to turn out for the club this season after the January transfer window.
Real Mona's head coach Ashton Blankson sees the midfielder's inclusion as a boost for the club, as he brings a wealth of experience from local and international football.
"I think one of the better options we added this year is Luca. We're still processing his transfer but he has come on the programme as a player/coach that has experience trodding the path to professional football," Blankson said.
"I think his experience will add to our ranks to have him on the field as a leader, as he has played quite a lot of football locally and internationally," Blankson continued.
MENTOR
Levee said his focus will be on acting as a mentor for the younger players who will be hoping to make the next step in their careers.
Real Mona FC have made the bold decision of fielding a predominantly U20 squad this year, yet Levee is confident they can compete with the best teams in the competition.
"It's not really about me. I'm more just thinking about working with the team and being able to help these younger players," he stated.
"I think we have very good quality players in terms of like, being a team in Jamaica that is primarily U20. I would say we are one of the best teams. I would say we have the best group of U20 players that are together, training and playing competitively."
Real Mona started their KSAFA Championship campaign with a 3-2 win over Barbican FC on Saturday.
