Molynes United Football Club's head coach Jermaine Thomas says a lack of motivation has been a major reason behind his team's poor run of form, and why they have been languishing at the bottom of the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) standings.

Molynes United have tallied just 10 points so far this season as they sit at the foot of the league standings and are firmly in the relegation zone.

They are tied on points with Humble Lions, but the Kingston-based club have recorded a worse goal difference.

"Sometimes I think players on a whole need to dig a bit deeper," Thomas stated. "But if the motivation is not there to play then that can create problems. We have to ensure that players are looking into themselves to do the necessary introspection to improve their performances."

Thomas pointed to the team conceding a large volume of goals throughout the season, 32, and expressed hope that the transfer window will allow the club to bolster its squad with new players who can shore up their defence.

"Stats would have shown that we have been conceding a whole lot of goals. We have conceded from some elementary defensive mistakes and that has been a huge problem for us this season," Thomas explained.

"Plans are afoot and we are working assiduously to have these corrected as soon as possible. With the window (transfer) coming up, we have already made plans to secure personnel that can help us and really contribute to the club," he said of the January period in which clubs are allowed to engage in transfer activity.

Another boost for Molynes heading into the new year will be the influx of talent they are expecting to see from youngsters, now that the schoolboy football competitions have come to an end.

McGrath High School's duo Devone Davis and Jamari Fowler, St George's College (StGC) midfielder Zabir Taylor and Happy Grove's top marksman Shevon Miller are key names expected to turn out more frequently for the club.

Davis and Taylor both turned out the club, while Miller made his debut in their 2-0 loss to Tivoli Gardens on Sunday.

Thomas expects they can bring much needed energy to the squad.

"The motivation level from these youngsters is going to be greater, that much I can tell you," Thomas insisted.

"They are going to have a lot more reasons to play and they are going to work harder because they do have a statement to make. As a result of that, I think they will be willing to cover a lot more ground so coming in they will add to the team in a positive way and I'm really looking forward to them contributing to the team."

Molynes United FC's next outing will see them taking on Vere Phoenix at the Wembley Centre of Excellence on Sunday.
