Davis scored a hat-trick for Molynes United FC in their 5-1 Jamaica Premier League win against Vere Phoenix on Sunday.

Molynes United midfielder Devone Davis is a man on a mission, the teenager signalling his intent to hit double figures in both goals and assists in this season's Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football competition.

Davis made the proclamation after bagging a hat-trick while Molynes downed Vere Phoenix 5-0 on Sunday to move out of the relegation zone.

He explained the three-goal haul was a massive boost for his confidence as he hopes to achieve a statement season this year.

"It is a great feeling and it was a good performance from myself and the team out there. I love that performance and the hat-trick really built my confidence and our momentum right now," he said.

"I'm taking it game by game so far. My goal is to get a lot of goals and assists. I have a goal of trying to get at least 10 goals and 12 assists so that's what I'm aiming for this season."

Davis is coming off the back of an impressive season in the ISSA daCosta Cup competition where he played a key role for McGrath High, which made their first-ever final appearance.

The schoolboy season would end in bitter disappointment for Davis who, despite scoring the first goal in the final, was forced off with an injury and could only watch from the sidelines as they lost on penalties to eventual champions Garvey Maceo High.

He said the loss was a major learning moment and he is now ready to make waves in the JPL.

"That loss cut me up a lot, to end up tearing my muscle and having to come off the field," he stated. "After that loss in the final, it feels like it built me to come back even harder this time. It gave me more belief in myself and to start playing more confident."

He added, "That loss really pushes me and it really gives me that drive to always go for what I want."

Davis said another driving force behind his confidence is the support he has received from his family.

Coming from Walks Road near the vicinity of Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town, Davis said his family's support is the main reason behind his desire to pursue a professional football career.

"My first club was Angels United and my family, especially my cousin, since then they always tell me they won't let my talents go to waste and they'll do anything to push me. They're always telling me about ball game and for me to put in the extra work."

Davis' next assignment with Molynes will be a JPL fixture against Harbour View on Sunday at Drax Hall.
