Mount Pleasant Football Academy continued their romp atop the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) standings with a 3-0 win over Cavalier yesterday as several of their league rivals dropped important points in match week 19.

In a replay of the last year's final, it was the St Ann massive who came out the victors this time around as they outplayed Cavalier in a display of attacking prowess.

Midfielder Jahshaun Anglin opened the scoring for Mount Pleasant in the opening 10 minutes of play before talisman Daniel Green doubled their lead in the 26th minute.

Haitian national youth representative Franco Celestin got his second goal in as many games as he made a second-half appearance to seal the win with a strike in the 78th minute.

The win meant Mount Pleasant maintained their six-point lead atop the table with 46 points, as their next fixture sees them face off against Tivoli Gardens.

Mount Pleasant head coach Theodore Whitmore said the mantra for his team this season is to focus on their next game as the most important of the season.

Whitmore explained his team is not focused on their final standings in the regular season, but are only concerned on picking up as many points as possible.

"The next game is important so for the next game we always want to win," he stated. "So at the end of the day, wherever Mount Pleasant end up we can live with that."

Cavalier boss Rudolph Speid said his team was outplayed on the day, but is confident they can recover their form before their next assignment.

"I think Mount Pleasant were just much better than us today but that's just how it goes sometimes," he said. "These type of games teach us a lot so we know what we need to improve."

MOBAY ON THE RISE

Montego Bay United crept into the second spot on 40 points as they rallied from a goal down to clip Humble Lion 3-1 in their encounter.

Humble Lion's latest signing Stephen Barnett opened the scoring for the Clarendon-based club. However, a Shaniel Thomas brace and a Daniel Reid strike in added time secured all three points for the team from Jamaica's second city.

They moved up the table past Arnett Gardens who were held in a dull, scoreless draw against Molynes United.

Arnett had the better opportunities throughout the contest but failed to convert, as they slip into third place with 38 points.

Arnett's head coach, Xavier Gilbert, blamed his team's poor decision making in the final third as the reason they dropped points at home.

"It didn't work tonight," he said. "I thought we were a little bit impatient and made some rash decisions. Our decision making has to improve and I think if we had combined a little bit more then things would have been different."

Also in action during the match week, Harbour View slumped to yet another defeat this season as they were clipped 1-0 by Waterhouse on Wednesday.

Andre Fletcher scored the lone goal in the contest from the spot as Harbour View now sit rooted at the foot of the table.

It has been an abysmal season for the Stars of the East, who are yet to win a match in over two months.
