Sitting bottom of the table with eight games left in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL), Vere Phoenix United will be hoping to get all three points when they face Dunbeholden on Sunday in match week 32 action.

It is a race against the clock for the Clarendon-based club as they look to avoid the drop this season while enduring a poor run of the results.

It has been just three wins in their last 20 appearances, two of which came against their fellow relegation-threatened club Humble Lion as well as a 2-1 win over Chapelton Maroons in December last year.

They currently sit at the foot of the standings with 22 points, trailing Humble Lion, 24, and Chapelton Maroons with 26.

Their upcoming fixture against Dunbeholden could be the boost the team needs for their survival hopes as they face an opponent who they hold favourable head-to-head results against this season.

Vere Phoenix defeated Dunbeholden 3-0 in round one before playing out 1-1 draw in round two of the regular season.

Anything less than a win could prove disastrous for Vere Phoenix as they are yet to face five of the top seven teams in the league, with fixtures against Mount Pleasant, Arnett Gardens, Cavalier, Tivoli Gardens and Racing United still to come.

For Dunbeholden, they will be looking to snap their five-game winless streak and would come into the game confident of doing so.

The St Catherine-based club were defeated 4-2 by a rampaging Tivoli Gardens team last time out as Tyrese Wynter and Damion Binns scoring the consolation goals.

Also in action on the day, Racing United will have a grand opportunity to creep into the top six as they face off against Tivoli Gardens who currently hold the final playoff spot.

Racing, seventh on 41 points, could sweep past Tivoli Gardens, sixth on 42 points, if they can pull off the win against the team from West Kingston.

Montego Bay United will be looking to leapfrog Arnett into second place as they will be eyeing all three points when they travel away to lowly Humble Lion.

Montego Bay will enter the game as heavy favourites but would be wary of a Humble Lion team who are fresh off a close 1-0 victory over Harbour View.
