Waterhouse, Arnett win
Waterhouse FC kept themselves in the running for a playoff spot in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) after a 3-0 win over Harbour View FC at the Drewsland Mini Stadium last night.
A brace from last season's top scorer Javane Bryan and one from Leonardo Jebbison saw the home team crush their long-time rivals and push themselves to seventh in the table on 44 points, one behind sixth-place Tivoli Gardens FC.
Jebbison got the home team off the mark with a 15th-minute strike, before Bryan struck two late goals (80th, 83rd) to see off the visitors.
Coach Marcel Gayle was heartened by the win.
"Its a good feeling. Hard work pays off. But it's nothing to smile about yet. We aren't out of the woods. We have to play each game like a final and today we did just that," he said.
Harbour View's assistant coach Damion Stewart said they were wasteful.
"We have to score our opportunities. We are getting them but not making use of them he said.
Harbour View, who are on a run of three straight losses, are 11th in the table on 28 points.
In the first match at the venue, Arnett Gardens reclaimed second place after 4-0 win over Molynes United.
Fabian Reid scored after two minutes and Kimani Arbouine added a second six minutes before half-time.
Rushane Thompson (75th) and Rushike Kelson (87th) added second-half goals to complete the win.
Arnett moved to 65 points, one more than Montego Bay United in third and three behind leaders Mount Pleasant.
Arnett coach Xavier Gilbert said they could have showed more control.
"It was a big win but I'm not sure the performance was as big as the win. Nevertheless, we got three points and scored some goals, which is good," he said.
Molynes coach Jermaine Thomas said it was just a bad day for his team.
"We conceded early, and two soft goals. And at this level if you are making those mistakes you are definitely going to pay, especially playing against one of the better teams in the league," he said.
Molynes are 12th in the table on 28 points, three more than second from bottom Humble Lion, who they play next, and five ahead of bottom-place Vere Phoenix.
