Golden Grove top Insports primary football in St Ann

Golden Grove Primary School took home the Insports St Ann primary football title after a 2-0 win over favourites Ocho Rios Primary in the final at Buckfield Sports Complex last Friday.

Golden Grove overcame Steer Town Primary 3-2, to book their places in the final, while Ocho Rios stopped Parry Town Primary 1-0 in their semifinal.

In the decider, Golden Grove got goals from Joshua Foulkes and Adale Facey to take the championship over Ocho Rios.

Golden Grove coach Andre Richards said they were always confident.

"Coming into the game we were very confident of victory. We knew Ocho Rios have a very good attack, so we stayed behind and stayed compact in the first half. In the second half, we increased the intensity for the win, which we got," he said.

Parry Town Primary were awarded third place as Steer Town Primary failed to show.

In the netball final, Bethany Primary retained their crown with a 8-2 win over Charlton Primary.

Bethany were led by goal attack Torian Smith and goal shooter Khaliah Chambers and the brilliance of wing defence Amonique Wray to triumph over Charlton.

In the third-place match, Golden Grove defeated Watt Town 10-2.

Wray of Bethany Primary was named netball MVP, while Bethany netball coach Tasheka Wallace was top netball coach and Richards the top football coach.

ST THOMAS

The Insports St Thomas primary football and netball competitions also concluded on Friday at the Social Development Commission field, Springfield, Morant Bay.

In the football final, Yallahs Primary turned back Grants Pen Primary 1-0. Lyssons defeated Bath Primary to take third place.

Yallahs beat Bath 2-0 to advance to the final, while Grants Pen advanced 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

In the netball final, Lyssons Primary defeated Duckenfield Primary 24-7. Third place went to Yallahs Primary who defeated White Horses Primary 22-12.
