Man remanded for robbing jogger

A man accused of robbing another was ordered further remanded into custody when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

Charged with robbery with aggravation is Donald Miller, 55, unemployed of Oakland Road, Kingston 13. He flatly refused to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty when asked.

Allegations are that on September 26, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the male complainant was out for a jog along a section of Hope Road in St Andrew, in the vicinity of Devon House when he was approached by the accused man.

It is said that Miller pulled a knife and put it to the complainant’s side in a threatening manner. Miller allegedly relieved the complainant of his smartphone and escaped onto the Devon House compound nearby. It is said that nearby on duty police officers reportedly assisted the complainant following an alarm made.

Miller was subsequently held and the phone recovered. The knife used in the alleged robbery was also found on his person. He was arrested and charged.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the accused man further remanded into custody until tomorrow when he is to appear for trial.
