Stop neglecting your sexual side

March 15, 2016

In today's fast-paced lifestyle, persons are having a hard time finding a way to explore and enjoy their sexual side. They put everything - career, children and religion - above their sexuality. As a result, they face negative consequences when their relationships fail.

The problem

- They are dissatisfied with the status of their relationship (the lack of intimacy, connection and overall fulfilment). The honeymoon period is over and they have paused the romance and all of the fun stuff they enjoyed at the beginning of their union.

• Single people feel like there is no suitable partner out there because they are overall disappointed with the pickings that are offered.

• Individuals are finding it difficult to feel happiness in this stress-filled world. They are constantly tired because they spend more time working and they really hate their jobs. They are also constantly bombarded with images of what 'happy' is supposed to look like in the media - and we all know how 'real' that is. They have their own ideas of what makes them happy, but they are afraid to take that step and be different. Their self-worth and self-esteem are pretty low, and they need to find drive and motivation to live their truth.

The solution

Start actively participating in your life, stop existing. Live! It's not enough to just work everyday and pay bills. Life is so much more than that and the only way to live is to get up and do something.

Too many people don't pay enough attention to the health of their intimate relationships. Many persons have accepted that the 'honeymoon period' in the relationship is short term. But it doesn't have to be.

The only difference between the 'honeymoon period' and the rest of the relationship is the effort. In the beginning of the relationship, parties do everything to make an expression. They move around their schedule to accommodate each other. However, once they get more familiar with each other, the effort is halted. This is a mistake. If you do not maintain your relationships, then they will die. Period.

Think of the relationship like your favourite car - when it is brand new, it works without any issues. However, after driving it, you need to buy gas, service the engine, wash it, and do general maintenance to keep it running at its optimum. If you fail to do that, then the car will not be operational. The same thing happens to relationships. There is no automatic button, you must participate.

Make the time to be with your partner or just to indulge in the things that you enjoy. Even if you have to put it in your schedule, do it. Life doesn't always allow you to be spontaneous, so don't wait until you have absolutely nothing to do, put it in your schedule.

Before you know it, the time will have passed and all you would have done is work and pay bills, and that is unacceptable.

Question

Dear Dr Sexy-Ann

My period cycle is giving me problem so I can't get pregnant. My doc put me on medication and my period is coming heavy. However, it doesn't seem as if it is working. What do you think?

Trina

Dear Trina,

It's hard for me to say without more details about your case, but you should go back to your doctor and follow up so they can monitor your progress. Also, have you had your partner tested? Maybe the issue with getting pregnant could be on his side as well. So, he should get tested to find out.

Good luck,

Dr Sexy-Ann
