Miss Kitty wants law degree to inspire young people

Popular media personality, Miss Kitty wants her recent accomplishments at law school to inspire young people, particularly those in the entertainment industry, to gain higher education.

Speaking with THE STAR following her exam results, Miss Kitty given name Khadine Hylton, pointed out that juggling school plus a full-time job was no easy feat but said she had to do it to show persons, particularly women in entertainment, that they do not have to sleep their way to success.

"As a female in media and by extension dancehall, I wanted to be a living, breathing example that you can be in the industry and achieve educational success. The common notion is that women in entertainment tend to sleep their way to the top. Miss Kitty has proven that you don't have to. You can live off of what's between your ears and not what's between your legs," she said. "I'm on the most popular entertainment show, Magnum (Kings and Queens of Dancehall) and I wanted to show my versatility, adaptability, drive, ambition and motivate others. Miss Kitty is not just talk, so when I say beauty and brain, it's not an empty slogan! I inspire by doing."

The radio talk show host shared her achievements with her social media followers last week and said she decided to invite her fans to share in her success because she knows how many persons look to her on a daily basis for inspiration.

"Many days and nights I cried, felt like giving up when it became overwhelming. I had to give up certain shows and lucrative opportunities overseas because I wanted to focus on school and balancing a full-time prime time radio show, hosting shows locally and abroad all while attending the Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies was hard," she said. "But when me say empower, I do it in real life. Me nuh just talk, me put action backa dat."

Miss Kitty revealed that she also helped three students to complete their law degrees.

Pointing out that she prides herself in blessing others, Miss Kitty said she is happy those three students were not only able to complete their studies but finish with first class honours as well.

While she has earned her law degree, Miss Kitty pointed out that she is not yet a lawyer.

"I'm not yet an attorney at law. I will continue along the journey. I don't know what specific area of law I want to practise as yet but I always wanted to give myself different options," she said.
