Gospel singer Shevelle is using her story of trials and triumphs to show that healing awaits in the arms of Jesus.

She captures this in her debut single Testimony, which was released two weeks ago.

"I hope people can receive healing and comfort in knowing that they can be saved from any trauma and/or difficult circumstances in any area of their life, and also know that God is always with them," Shevelle, 24, told THE WEEKEND STAR. "It is also my job as a servant of the Lord to share my testimony with all nations and let everyone know that God is the greatest supernatural being that will never leave nor forsake us and will renew a right spirit within us."

Written by Shevelle, Lloyd Douglas and Kevin Winebarger, Testimony pulls inspiration from the darkness that the singer experienced for several years while navigating life as the youngest child of divorced parents.

"Depression took over my entire being and though I had family and friends talking and trying to help me through it, that still would not get me on track," she said. "Thankfully, the Lord saw it fit to slowly take me out of that state to give me some peace of mind with His words, through long prayers and spirit-filled gospel and Christian music. The words of the song illustrate how mighty and powerful God is and how He saved me from going down the path of destruction because of the family trauma I experienced as a young lady and struggles I go through on a daily basis."

Winebarger and Joshua Frerichs produced the jazzy, neo-soul number which has been treated with crisp visuals directed by Danny Matthews. Shevelle said the feedback to the song has been positive, with many fans being able to relate to her story.

The Kingston-based artiste, whose given name is Shevelle Clarke, said she has had her eyes set on a music career since kindergarten.

"My biggest musical aspiration is to receive the highest international recognition for musical works executed in a timely manner to express God's love, and the people in need of it," she said.
