Chris Gayle to submit album for Grammy consideration
Legendary West Indies batsman-turned-recording artiste Chris Gayle has committed to entering ' The Tropical Houses Cruises to Jamaica: The Asian Edition' album for consideration for nomination ahead of the 66th staging of the Grammy Awards in 2024.
"I have decided to enter [it] ... because of my global presence as well as the fact that I did so much promotion of the album on my social media," he shared. "We are entering the categories of world music and reggae." The self-proclaimed Universe Boss is featured on the track, Gimme Your Love, with singer Shav A, the daughter of veteran singer, Admiral Tibet.
He explained that he decided to enter the project as he remains motivated by past accomplishments of notable Jamaican musicians, and is encouraged to try and replicate that success.
"As I am taking the music business more seriously, and will be putting out much more singles and albums, I want to get my name familiar with the Grammy process and algorithms. Before you win, you must get nominated; so it's a learning process for me," he explained.
"I definitely want to follow the footsteps of Shaggy and Sean Paul who have won Grammy awards because they get to spread Jamaican culture far and wide," he added.
Gayle also pointed out that marketing of the album will be increased, despite those efforts that have already proved profitable.
"Despite the fact that we debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes US Reggae Album charts, and we got a lot of coverage on the album, I feel we have so much more to do. We definitely will be doing more marketing in the States on the album, on the mainstream music platforms on radio, television and magazines as well as social media," he shared.
