Reggae trio to make debut at St Ann festival
The Rising Suns, a roots-reggae trio comprising Irie Souljah, Matthew Malcolm and Quan-Dajai, are expected to make their major show debut at the Jamaica Woodlands Festival, scheduled for April 26 at Pearly Beach in St Ann.
The trio have recorded a handful of songs together, all produced by Silly Walks Discotheque, the German duo best known for producing Sweet Jamaica by Chronixx. They are scheduled for release this year. Irie Souljah, who is from Barcelona, Spain has recorded a number of singles since relocating to Jamaica in 2014. Matthew Malcolm and Quan-Dajai have also recorded solo songs. They appeared as Young Seeco Patterson and Teen Bob Marley, respectively, in the hit 2024 movie, Bob Marley: One Love.
"Our sound is trying to pay homage to the vintage reggae style, foundation style but there are also new, modern influences that we love. What we'd like to achieve at this show is more awareness of our project an' mek di people get to know us," said Irie Souljah.
Born Joseb Grau, Irie Souljah has also released one album, Immigrant. In 2020, Matthew Malcolm released the EP, Rebirth, which contains songs like Y.O.U. and War For You. Quan-Dajai, whose songs include Brimstone, earned critical reviews for his portrayal of the young Marley.
Bushman, Turbulence, Warrior King, Jah Bouks, Jahbar I and Derajah are some of the artistes on the Jamaican Woodland Festival.
