DAUGHTER BEATEN FOR PARTING PARENT’S FIGHT
A father who is accused of beating his daughter for intervening in an argument between him and her mother had his bail extended when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Lenford Stewart pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.
According to police report, on December 28, the accused slapped the complainant on her feet and on her back with a leather belt.
The complainant's mother told the court that the accused, who was ordered by law not to see her, had been using the child as an excuse to visit her home.
An argument reportedly took place between the two parents and the complainant got involved.
"She said she told him not to talk to me like that and that upset him," said the mother ,who has been separated from the accused for over a year.
The accused reportedly waited for the complainant the following day at the bus stop and used a leather belt to hit her.
The police asked for the trial to be delayed because they are still gathering evidence.
Stewart will return to court on April 13.
