Lots of love for Champsy
Last year, numerous persons complained that the costume worn by the Champs mascot, 'Champsy', was smelly.
Fast-forward to the 2018 staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships at the National Stadium, and the handlers of the mascot are describing him as one of the hottest personalities at the athletics event.
"Wi have a new costume weh roll out this year," Kimani, who was leading Champsy around the National Stadium, told THE STAR.
"Everybody want tek picture wid Champsy. Champsy tek picture wid over 4,000 woman, " he explained.
Last year, several student athletes appeared to have shun the mascot's attempt at photo opportunities, but that was not the case this time around.
"Ova di years, wah did happen [is that] di costume did a use fi a long period, which was five years, so this year wi get a new suit," Kimani continued.
While he was not willing to say how many costumes Champsy has, he said that there are enough pieces to ensure that he is always clean and he does not get smelly even if he is very active.
"Him interact and dance, and di athletes dem want hug him. Everything is a part of it," he said, moments after the mascot evoked loud cheers for dancing up a storm in the Flow Party Zone.
"Nobody nah complain bout Champsy. This year, Champsy a di hottest thing a Champs," he said.
