The St James police are seeking the assistance of members of the public to identify and apprehend a group of boys who reportedly stabbed an elderly man to death at the People's Arcade in Montego Bay last Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Michael Cooke, a 60-year-old labourer, whose address is not yet ascertained.

Reports by the police are that shortly after 9 a.m., Cooke was walking on the compound of the People's Arcade, which is located in the vicinity of the Montego Bay Transport Centre, when a group of boys began to mock him.

An argument developed between Cooke and the boys, when the boys brandished knives and stabbed him several times in his upper body.

The elderly man collapsed and the suspects ran from the scene.

The police were summoned and upon arrival, the wounded man was transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was treated and admitted in critical condition.

Cooke succumbed to the stab wounds the following day.
