A woman, who reportedly tried to enter a People's National Party (PNP) meeting in Falmouth, Trelawny, on Sunday evening with a loaded firearm in her handbag is now in custody at the Falmouth Police Station and is poised to be charged soon.

The police said that the 33-year-old woman was reportedly making her way into the meeting at the Falmouth All-Age School at approximately 7:30 p.m. when she was stopped at a police checkpoint. The lawmen reportedly asked to search her handbag and she handed it over.

However, before the handbag could be opened, she reportedly ran off and the police gave chase. She was subsequently held and taken back to the checkpoint, where the handbag was searched in her presence. During the search, a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing 10 live rounds, and a parcel containing ganja were found. She was promptly taken to the Falmouth Police Station where she is now being held.

"We are not ready to disclose her identity, as we are carrying out further investigations. However, there is no question that she will be charged," a police source told THE WESTERN STAR.
