A woman, who the police have identified as a prostitute, was killed along East Street, in Montego Bay, St James, on Saturday night during an alleged altercation with a disgruntled male customer.

The accused reportedly inflicted several wounds to her body with a knife.

While the sex worker's body was subsequently removed to the morgue, her attacker is now under police guard at the Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH), where he is recovering from stab wounds, which were reportedly inflicted on him by the deceased.

According to reports by the police, shortly after 9 p.m., a dispute developed between the woman and the man outside a building along East Street, where sex workers regularly congregate.

During the heated argument, they both pulled knives and began attacking each other.

The injured man fled the scene following the incident but, acting on information, the police found him at CRH, where he had gone to seek medical attention and was admitted in a serious but stable condition.

The woman was found dead in a pool of blood when the police visited the scene.

Prostitutes operating in Montego Bay are known to arm themselves with knives, ice picks, scissors and even acid.

Many of them have been arrested over the years for wounding each other and customers.

The death of the unidentified sex worker comes sharply on the heels of the murder of Candice Edwards, a Trelawny-based prostitute, who was beaten to death on the night of Tuesday, September 18, in Falmouth, by a man wielding a golf club.

The attacker in that incident, who has been identified as 30-year-old shopkeeper Easton Rowe of Falmouth, is now facing a murder charge.

He reportedly retaliated violently after he was pepper sprayed by Edwards.
