Crocodile attacks male in St Thomas

The St Thomas police have confirmed that a man was attacked by a crocodile last Thursday in Poor Man's Corner, St Thomas.

In a video that was obtained by THE STAR, several men were seen helping the injured man whose leg was severed.

It was not clear if the man was in the water when he was attacked.

According to the commanding officer of St Thomas, Superintendent Marlene Wilson-Christie, the man was taken to the hospital after the incident. She said that the police have very little information about the incident, but the matter is being investigated.

"The investigating officer went to see the man last Friday because they heard about what happened, but the man was in the theatre. However, he did promise that he would visit the man and give me an update on what happened," she said.

Wilson-Christie said that a formal report was not made, and as such, the investigating officer has to wait until the injured man is able to give them information.

Meanwhile, in a statement released last week, National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) said that an investigation is ongoing. They are urging persons to exercise extreme caution in areas that are known natural crocodile habitats and refrain from interacting with the crocodiles.
