Old bastard gets 3 years for raping 10-y-o - Distraught mother attempted suicide

July 29, 2019

A western Jamaica mother is at her wits’ end after her 12-year-old daughter was raped by a 54-year-old man.

The old bastard is now serving two years and nine months in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges of grievous sexual assault, and having sex with a person under the age of 16 years old last month.

The child was not yet 11 years old at the time of the incident.

Pansy*, the child’s mother, contacted The STAR last week, a day after a teenager was taken into custody for allegedly raping the little girl on at least one occasion. Her voice cracked repeatedly as she was overtaken by a raft of emotions running from pain to anger. She said that she is struggling to deal with the fact that her baby was sexually abused on separate occasions by at least two persons.

I failed them

Up to press time yesterday, it was unclear whether he was charged.

The mother says she has lost two jobs and has had to be in and out of the hospital, and has to be doing therapy since the ordeal began in 2018.

“I really feel like I failed them,” the mother of two said.

“I feel like somehow God just not here with me anymore. I just don’t know if I want to go another day with all of this. When I took her to the doctor after the second incident, the doctor look at me and say: ‘Mommy, why you keep letting this happen? Her organs are damaged,” the mother said.

“I’m fighting but I don’t see where I’m winning,” said Pansy, who attempted suicide in January of this year.

The mother told The STAR that since the incident, the family has been broken. She said that the child has been forced to stay back in school, and was unable to sit her PEP exams due to the fact that she has been performing below average.

Meanwhile, commenting on the sentence given to her daughter’s abuser, Pansy said it did not match the crime he committed.

“Honestly, I have the utmost respect for the police right now. They were on the case 24/7 and they left no stone unturned. They really did everything that they had to do,” she said.

“I really feel like that wasn’t enough for somebody that did something like that. I saw it as something like they just throw it away. ...even the police officer who had the case, her phone drop out of her hand same time and mash up. We were expecting him to get at least five years. Two years is like giving him a slap on the wrist and walk away.”
