Mother says Mandeville facility refused to treat her child - But doctor denies kicking them out of his office

Last Friday, Shannon Vaughan woke up and saw her three-year-old daughter bleeding from the nose.

The 25-year-old mother went into panic mode and quickly carried her to the Weecare paediatric facility in Mandeville, Manchester.

But after an encounter with the receptionist, she said her baby was refused treatment.

"I was there for a while because I got there early and I saw the receptionist place a clipboard on the counter, so I asked her, 'Miss am I supposed to write the baby's name on this?' and she went off and we began arguing," Vaughan told CENTRAL STAR.

She said that when the doctor arrived, she asked for a referral to a private ear nose and throat specialist, which the doctor said he was going to give, but added that her daughter should not return to the facility.

"It was so much blood this (Friday) morning, the blood seeped through sheets on the bed to the mattress, so I panicked. Can you imagine waking up to see your baby in a pool of blood wheN there are no cuts on her body, and it is coming from her nostril, and then they did not want to care for my child?" she said.

However, the doctor, Jason Mungalsingh, told CENTRAL STAR that the child was being treated, but the mother left with her after he indicated that would be her last visit to his facility, based on the report he received from his receptionist.

"What I heard is that she came before office hours, demanding where I am and how I haven't reached as yet. The receptionist told her to have a seat. She said that she was going to 'drape up' the receptionist. It is the first that she did the threat, but I won't let it be a second time. I have zero tolerance for anything like that," he said.

After he received the report, he said that he told Vaughan that she would have to find another paediatric centre.

"I started to write the referral letter and I said to her, 'By the way, persons who get into physical altercations with my staff, I don't normally see them again. So although I am seeing you today, after today, you're going to have to find somewhere else to go'. She stormed off and said, 'I don't want anything from you', before I got a chance to write the letter," he said. "I did not kick her out of my office. Her child was seen, examined and treated by me; and in the process of treating her child, she walked off."

However, an alleged eyewitness said that Vaughan never threatened the receptionist.

"The mother asked the receptionist a simple question, in which the receptionist begun speaking loudly and ran the mother from in front of her. The mother responded and a verbal argument begun. Questions are made to be asked, and her job is to answer them to the best of her ability... . I listened to it all and not once did I hear the woman threaten the receptionist," the eye witness said.
