Three firearms and several rounds of ammunition seized

Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force continue to make communities safer after three firearms and several rounds of ammunition were seized in three separate incidents across the island within hours. The first incident occurred when one 9mm pistol with a magazine containing five 9mm cartridges was seized by the Police in Rockfort in St. Andrew on Saturday, November 09.

Reports from the Elleston Road Police are that about 7:55 p.m., lawmen conducted an operation in the area when a man was seen acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. He was accosted, searched and the firearm along with the ammunition taken from his waistband.

He was subsequently taken into custody, however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

Hours later, during an operation at the May Pen Cemetery, one Jimenez Arms 9mm pistol was seized. No one was arrested in connection with this seizure.

Detectives assigned to the Sandy Bay Police Station seized one firearm during an operation in Mount Pelier, Hanover on Sunday, November 10. Reports from the Sandy Bay Police are that about 6:30 a.m., a pre-dawn operation was conducted in the area when a house was searched and one .38 revolver pistol was recovered.

82-year old fatally struck by car

Eighty-two-year-old Clifford Lawrence, a farmer of Retirement district, St. Ann died as a result of injuries he sustained in a vehicular crash on the Retirement main road in the parish on Thursday, November 7. Reports from the Brown's Town Police are that about 5:00 p.m., Lawrence was walking along the roadway when he was struck by a grey Toyota Corolla motor car. The Police were summoned and he was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the motor car was warned for prosecution.

Investigations continue.

Pillion Passenger Dies After Falling From Motorcycle

Twenty-one-year-old Omar Bernard, a farmer of Hall's Delight district in Mavis Bank, St. Andrew died as a result of injuries he received in a motor vehicle crash on Content Valley main road in the parish on Wednesday, November 6.

Bernard was a pillion passenger on a motorcycle when the handle of the motorcycle allegedly made contact with a pedestrian. Bernard reportedly fell from the motorcycle as a result, hitting an embankment; he was also hit by the wheel of an Isuzu motor truck that was travelling in the opposite direction. He sustained several injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the motorcycle has been warned for prosecution.

Police seek public's assistance to identify body found in Portmore, St Catherine

Detectives assigned to the St. Catherine South Police Division are seeking the public's assistance to identify the body of a man that was found on Dyke Road in Portmore St. Catherine on Saturday, November 02. The body is of dark complexion and was clad in a cream long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

Reports from the Portmore Police are that passers-by stumbled upon the body in bushes and alerted them. On their arrival, it was seen in a state of decomposition. The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue for post mortem.

Anyone with information that can assist in identifying the body is being asked to contact the Portmore Criminal Investigations Branch at 876-989-0623, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.

Teen charged after robbing woman

A 17-year-old boy is to appear in the Family Court to answer to charges of Robbery with violence after he was implicated in an incident on Oxford Road, St. Andrew on Wednesday, November 6.

Reports are that thhe teen robbed a woman of her personal property and pushed her to the ground. A Police team that was on patrol heard the woman's cries for help and intervened. The teen was nabbed and later charged.

He will appear before the court on Thursday, November 14.
