The presence of the novel coronavirus - COVID-19 in Jamaica has forced Derrick 'Black X' Robinson and his wife-to-be, Nickevia Hines, to alter their honeymoon plans.

The couple, who will exchange vows on March 31, planned a honeymoon walk from Port Maria, St Mary, to Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. It could take them about 16 hours to complete the journey.

"Professor Vincent Brown of Harvard University has written the first full book on Chief Tacky and the rebellion. He will be coming to Jamaica to launch that book. This walk is to go and greet him at the airport and welcome him to Jamaica," Black X said recently about the reason for the walk.

Not to travel

However, because of the conoravirus, Brown cancelled his trip to Jamaica after Harvard University in the United States asked its staff not to travel. Black X told THE WEEKEND STAR that they will still be walking for their honeymoon but they will have to be mindful of the environment at this time.

"The corona thing is a very big concern, but we will be trying to be model citizens by setting example as how to behave in public as best as we can," Black X said.

The St Mary native has been walking for 12 years from St Mary to Kingston in a bid to force the Government to declare Chief Tacky a national hero. He met Hines last October during one of his treks. She admires his mission and is determined to be by his side.

And despite coronavirus being in the air, they will still be walking to Kingston - just not to the airport.

"On the Wednesday, we are going from St Mary to Half-Way Tree. On the Thursday, we are going from Half-Way Tree clock to Ms Lou's Statue ... We just have to finish the walk on Thursday. Chances are, we may close the walk with a visit to Parliament on Thursday evening," he said.
