Western Bureau:

Aneita Adams, a 24-year-old mother of four children, told THE STAR that her world has turned upside down following last Thursday's brutal slaying of her common-law husband, who she said was the sole breadwinner for her family.

Adams' common-law husband, Clifton Madourie, a 39-year-old construction worker of Tunning Gully in Cacoon district, Hanover, was shot dead and robbed of more than $100,000 in cash while walking home through his community.

According to the distraught woman, she spoke to Madourie, via telephone, about 7:50 p.m., last Thursday, and she could hear in the background that he was with friends and was in a happy mood because he was laughing. He told her that he would soon be home.

Use to hearing gunshot

"About 8:30 mi hear a whole heap a gunshot a fire pon the road, and mi and mi oldest daughter start talk, but true wi use to hearing gunshot sometime a night, wi neva tek it fi nothing," the woman said.

"Is when mi hear one a him uncle a bawl out fi help, and a call dung a di house that mi realise seh something serious happen," the woman continued.

"Mi shock wen mi hear him seh 'Cunny' get shot, and same time mi run out a di house, an wen mi go dung deh mi si him lay down full a blood wid gunshot," added the grieving woman.

The broken-hearted woman said her babyfather was the nicest person one could ever know, describing him as very kind, genuine, loving, and always willing to help people in his community.

According to her, on the weekend, they were supposed to purchase grocery items and other items for their home as everyone was stocking up in preparation for the coronavirus. His death shattered the shopping plans.

"Mi not working, and a him provide fi mi an mi children, an now him dead, a don't know what mi gwan do next," said the bewildered woman.

According to reports, Madourie was last seen alive inside a shop in his community where he purchased items from a wad of cash, which he had in his possession. A police source told THE STAR that they believe robbery was the motive for the killing as only $300 was found on his person after he was killed.
