Gordon said the people must repent or the COVID-19 numbers will continue to rise.

Fifty-nine-year-old ice cream vendor Orville Gordon believes that the COVID-19 pandemic is a manifestation of God's wrath.

"This is God's wrath upon the land and unless the people repent and change from wickedness, this will continue to rise," Gordon said.

Gordon, who sells ice cream, fudge and ice cream cakes, was recently spotted on his motorcycle laden with supplies doing his daily rounds at the Dovecot Memorial Park.

SERVE GOD

"It is said in the Bible, that if we humble ourselves, he will hear and heed our cries and solve our needs. We must serve God or else it (COVID-19) won't stop spreading," said Gordon, who said that he has been selling to visitors and mourners at Dovecot for 30 years.

But one medical professional believes that above everything, the virus is serious.

"We (Jamaica) have experienced other illnesses such as poliomyelitis, tuberculosis and other such. Now there is the COVID-19 and it is serious. We have seen that in the case of COVID-19, scientists have developed vaccines that will work to prevent the spread and hospitalisation," said Dr Raymoth Notice. He was quick to point out that he wasn't qualified to declare if it has any spiritual or prophetic implications. The Ministry of Health and Wellness reported that as of Saturday, Jamaica had recorded 30,499 coronavirus infections with 14,640 being active, and 485 deaths.
