Mom fears the worst as adopted son goes missing

March 25, 2021

Five years ago when 51-year-old Tammy White met Haira 'Battlefield' Wilson and found out he had no family ties, she invited him into her home to be part of her family.

The relationship between White and Wilson, who was basically a 'street child', blossomed, and White now refers to Wilson as her adopted son. However, she is worried sick that she might not see him again as the 33-year-old has been missing for almost two months.

Wilson left their Mahogany, Ocho Rios, St Ann, home on February 8 to do his usual fishing. She hasn't seen or heard from him since.

Doesn't own a boat

"He usually goes fishing in Ochi beach or St Ann's Bay depends on who he is going with because he doesn't own a boat," White told THE STAR. "He lives with me and he always comes home. He never leaves for long because he knows I'm not well and he does all my grocery shopping. So for me not to hear from him or see him it is not normal."

Since meeting Wilson at a local beach in Ocho Rios where he works as a lifeguard, White said that he never mentioned any relatives so White doesn't believe he is visiting someone.

"I'm the only family he has, he never mentioned anything about any relatives or anything like that so to say he went to see other family doesn't make sense. He calls my three other sons his brothers, they came down from overseas a month recently and they had so much fun and now he just disappeared in thin air," she cried

"He is very well known in Ochi as well and I asked people who know him and nobody has seen him. He hasn't been online and his phone is not ringing or anything," she added.

White has been having sleepless nights and revealed that she spends her days on the beach to ease some of the pain. She insisted that Wilson has never left the house for such a long period and believes he would have at least called or sent a text.

"I miss him so much and I'm not managing well. I'm just trying my best to keep strong," she said. "I have a prayer circle going for him and people posting his picture on social media."

Wilson is of a dark complexion, five feet, 11 inches tall, and was said to possibly be wearing blue swimming trunks and a white T-shirt when he was last seen. The distraught White is, however, remaining hopeful that her son will be back home safely.

"My husband said no news is good news so I'm having faith that he will be home," she told THE STAR.

Anyone with information about Haira Wilson's whereabouts is asked to contact the Ocho Rios police at 876-974-2533 or the police 119 emergency number.
