Hickey on neck lands man in court

A man who is on bail for one incident was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday for hitting his babymother.

The court heard that in his latest matter before the courts, Jeavon Lee and the complainant got into a heated argument, which resulted in him striking her all over her body, causing her to receive injuries to the right side of her face and her back.

The court heard that Lee was in custody because he has another matter before the Home Circuit Court and had breached a bail condition when he got into the altercation with his babymother. He is expected to return to court next March for that matter.

Guilty with explanation

When Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks asked Lee to explain his actions, he pleaded guilty with explanation. He told the court that his babymother told him that their eight-month-old daughter had a cold.

"I told her that I would buy a DPH and pick up the child Thursday, then take the child to Children's (Bustamante Hospital for Children). When I got there (the home), while she was talking to me, she saw some marks on my neck that caused an argument. She ran to the kitchen for a knife and she came at me and that's when me and her start fighting and I hit her," Lee shared.

Having heard his explanation, Crooks said "He said guilty with explanation but his explanation, and I'm not saying is true or lie, but his explanation is self-defence. So, he saying self-defence is a not guilty plea."

Lee told the court that he was willing to attend mediation to resolve the situation with his child's mother but the judge revealed that under the circumstances surrounding issues of breaching his bail condition, mediation would not be possible. He remanded Lee until July 1. A fingerprint order was also made.
