Elderly sisters murdered at home in St Catherine
In life Christine Lewis, 69, and her sister, 72-year-old Lola Lewis, were inseparable, but those close to them are stricken with grief after they were murdered in their home.
Their bodies, which were in an early stage of decomposition, were found on Tuesday morning inside their house in Spring Village in St Catherine. The police are pleading with those affected not to get involved in 'jungle justice', which is illegal.
"We realised the love that you all show for those killed, but we are imploring you not to take the law in your own hands," said Inspector Ian Purrier of the St Catherine South Police Division's Community Safety and Security Branch.
His view was endorsed by head of the Old Harbour police, Deputy Superintendent Mark Harris, who begged for information to solve the double murder.
"It is very clear that these victims were held in high esteem by the community, so we will not spare any efforts in probing this matter," Harris said.
As THE STAR took to the scene, scores of residents of the rural St Catherine community lined the street and expressed sadness at the tragedy. It took a heavy downpour to scatter the crowd that gathered to mourn the brutal demise of the senior citizens.
"Both women lived together, but Miss Lewis [Christine] was the one that taught me at school," Michelle Markland said. "I remember her as a great teacher who was strict, but could make you learn, doesn't matter how dunce you are." The questions on the lips of residents is why Christine and Lola were targeted.
Investigation are being carried out by the Major Investigation Division and the St Catherine South Police Division.
