A Trelawny woman and her two sons were taken into custody by the police on Tuesday morning after an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition were found at their home.

The police say they are unable to release the identity of the 58-year-old woman, or those of her sons, ages 23 and 20 years old. Reports reaching THE STAR are that shortly after 5:45 a.m., a team of officers carried out an operation at the house occupied by the woman and her two sons in Duncans.

During the search, the lawmen discovered a black Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol fitted with a magazine containing fifteen 9mm rounds, and a black mask which was discovered in the bedroom occupied by the older son. The three individuals, who the police say have been on their radar for some time, were taken into custody.

"This operation was also part of the drive to rid the parish of illegal firearms, and all three persons will surely be charged in connection with this latest seizure by this Friday," one lawman told the news team. Twenty-one illegal firearms have been seized in Trelawny since the start of the year.
