Motorcyclist steals cop’s firearm

March 16, 2023

THE STAR has been informed that an intensive probe has been launched into the alleged attack on a member of the St Catherine North police's traffic department.

The lawman was allegedly kicked from his motorcycle and his service pistol stolen by another motorcyclist. The gun was later handed over to the Spanish Town police by a resident. Reports are that the policeman was conducting traffic management duties along the Duncan's Pen Road in Spanish Town when he stopped a motorcyclist.

Sources say that as the police constable drove up alongside the other road user, the motorcyclist kicked him, causing the lawman to fall. The rogue biker reportedly attacked the cop and managed to wrest his service pistol from his grasp. During the encounter, the policeman managed to eject the loaded magazine from the gun. The biker allegedly attempted to shoot the policeman but no round was fired. He then fled the scene with the weapon, leaving his bike behind. However, the firearm is back in police hands.

THE STAR was unable to get confirmation of the incident from officials in the division. It is also unclear if the policeman was seriously injured.
