Lifeguard’s murder trial awaits post-mortem report

December 04, 2023

Parish Judge Sasha-Marie Ashley set January 29, 2024 as the next hearing date for the murder trial of Dailando Bailey, the 24-year-old St James-based lifeguard who is charged with killing his brother.

When the matter was heard in the St James Parish Court last Thursday, it was disclosed that the post-mortem report and the scene-of-crime report were outstanding from the prosecution's case file. The clerk of the court also made an oral application for an additional week's time to complete the file, as the post-mortem report had only been done a week prior. Bailey, who is represented by attorney Henry McCurdy, was given the new court date and had his bail extended

The allegations from the Mt Salem police in St James are that, about 12:45 p.m. on September 12, Bailey and his brother Oshaine were at home in Catherine Mount district when they got into an argument over bills. The quarrel escalated into a physical fight during which Bailey reportedly choked his brother until he became unresponsive. Oshaine, who was 30, was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Bailey reported the incident to the police and, following an interview, he was formally arrested and charged.
