Three illegal firearms seized in St Andrew
Senior Superintendent of Police, Stephanie Lindsay, has confirmed that three illegal firearms were seized during an operation along Sunrise Crescent in St Andrew on Monday afternoon.
A number of individuals, including previously listed persons of interest, were arrested during the joint police-military efforts.
“This operation started sometime after 5:00 (a.m.)…and is in response to some Lindsay robberies and shootings in the Sunrise Crescent, 100 Lane and Chancery Street areas. The persons arrested thus far were persons of interest in previous crimes as well as others we believe to be suspects in other crimes,” Lindsay said.
A high-powered rifle and two semi-automatic pistols along with several rounds of assorted ammunition were seized.
According to Lindsay, at least one of the persons taken into custody will be charged, as one of the firearm was found in his possession.
“I believe that today’s operation is a good indication of the efforts being carried out by the police. It is a big community, even though it is one address. And I believe that the persons in the surrounding area will be able to breathe a sigh of relief,” the senior cop said.
