Pregnant woman may give birth in custody
A pregnant Corporate Area woman who conned a businessman out of more than $4 million may give birth while in custody, as she is yet to begin making restitution.
"It is what it is, but Madam, put yourself in a better position for the court to consider bail," Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque indicated to the accused Mellany Williams. It was shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday that the complainant paid sums to Williams totalling $4,182,500 to commence the process of filing to become a US citizen and for the purchase of an apartment between June 22 and July 20, 2023.
Williams, who also uses the name Monique Daley, is charged on an indictment of obtaining credit by fraud and five counts of obtaining money by means of false pretence. Williams is alleged to have promised the complainant that her husband lives overseas and would be able to assist with the filing process.
It is alleged that Williams told the complainant further that her husband has direct connection to the White House in Washington, D.C., where he works as a secret agent, and even saved President Joe Biden's niece from a heart condition.
The complainant paid money to Williams by way of wire transfers and on one occasion, she instructed him to attend the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court for an immigration interview and that he should not tell anyone. The complainant paid more than $600,000 on one occasion after Williams allegedly informed him about an apartment in Kingston for sale, also telling him not to tell anyone.
She was remanded in custody until March 7, when monies are expected to be paid.
