Councillor candidate hospitalised hours before nomination day

February 07, 2024

The People's National Party (PNP) has confirmed that their councillor candidate for the Little London Division in Westermoreland, Oliver Reid, has been hospitalised.

The STAR understands the development has left the PNP in limbo as Reid was scheduled to be nominated tomorrow at the Grange Hill Anglican Church in the parish.

“The man is suffering from dehydration, and he will come out [of the hospital] later this evening, based on what I understand,” Ian Hayles, the PNP’s vice president, told The STAR.

At the same time, Colin Hitchman, the party's region six chairman, is expressing confidence that Reid will be nominated as planned tomorrow. “He is ok now; he will be up and about tomorrow, and he will be duly nominated tomorrow,” he said.

Reid is expected to face off with Savanna La Mar’s deputy mayor councillor Ian Myles, who is running on the Jamaica Labour Party ticket for the Little London Division in the February 26 Local Government Election.
