Police slap 'Mango' with gun charges
The police in Hanover have arrested and charged Romain Cunningham otherwise called ‘Mango’, after he was engaged in an alleged shootout with lawmen last Thursday.
The 32-year-old has been charged with possession of prohibited Weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and three counts of shooting with intent.
According to the Lucea police, about 12:40 p.m. on Feburary 1, police personnel were on patrol in the Pell River district in Green Island, when they observed a purple motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction with Cunningham and a pillion aboard.
On seeing the police the motorcycle suddenly turned onto a dirt track and the police followed suit. Cunningham lost control of the motorcycle. Both men fell to the ground, Cunningham got up and brandished a firearm.
He opened gunfire at the lawmen who took evasive action and returned the fire. Cunningham escaped in a nearby gutter and the other man who received injuries from the fall assisted to hospital.
On Thursday, February 01 Cunningham turned himself into the police and was charged after a question and answer session. A court date is being finalised.
