PNP drops Dennis Meadows as North Trelawny caretaker

February 29, 2024

The People's National Party (PNP) has announced that Dennis Meadows, who is currently in hot water for comments he made regarding scamming, has been dropped as the party's caretaker for the Trelawny Northern constituency.

The announcement was made by party president, Mark Golding, via a statement sent to the media on Thursday morning.

“Cde Meadows’ continuation as the candidate is untenable in light of his egregious remarks on the platform, given that scamming is one of Jamaica‘s most serious national security challenges," Golding said.

“Jamaica will no longer tolerate weak, unprincipled leaders who say one thing but do another. Jamaicans deserve better, and I will give it to them.”

Golding also said this action should serve as a "warning" to other party leaders. "We are demanding higher standards of accountability," he stressed.

Meadows, who was up and about on the campaign trail during the final leg of the Local Government Elections, was seen on a now viral social media video supporting the illegal act.

"And I speak to the youth man dem on the corner, especially the one dem that call themself choppa. I can openly say, I have no problem with a man if him wahh chop. Cause them chop us during slavery, so nothing wrong if we chop them back," Meadows said.

There have been several calls for his sacking since.
