Teen steals $600 from mom

A mother took her 18-year-old daughter to court for stealing a steel tin pan containing $600 worth of coins from her.

The daughter, Kitara Manning, pleaded guilty to simple larceny in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday.

"The police went to the house and I witness everything. I saw her go for the saving pan and I just take it back from her," the mother related to Senior Parish Judge Paula Blake-Powell. The judge warned the teen to enrol in vocational training to steer away from a life of theft.

"Make sure you have a paper to show me that you are jumping around and getting involved. We need to get our young children involved in something other than tiefing. You need to get enrolled in vocational training," the senior jurist pressed.

Manning explained to Blake-Powell that she is seeking employment, even though she does not have any educational qualifications, having dropped out of high school.

"You need to get enrolled in the HEART/NSTA Trust," Blake-Powell pressed.

A social enquiry report was requested to assist in sentencing Manning and the matter was adjourned until May 31.
