Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Mining Floyd Green says he is satisfied with the outcomes of the discussions he had with Guyana's Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha during the recent 38th Regional FAO Conference in Guyana, where both nations agreed to share agricultural best practices.

"These bilateral talks have been incredibly successful. We have identified areas where Jamaica and Guyana can collaborate effectively, particularly in the exchange of knowledge and expertise. By collaborating, we aim to strengthen our agricultural sectors and promote sustainable development," said Green, in emphasising the importance of providing mutual technical support to enhance agricultural practices in both nations.

Green also noted that the discussions also underscored the commitment of both countries to engage and empower youth in agriculture, recognising the vital role of young people in the growth of the agricultural sector. The bilateral talks also explored strategies for enhancing youth involvement and creating opportunities for their active participation.

The talks between Jamaica and Guyana were primarily aimed at building collaborative relationships and sharing expertise, covered various areas, including rice cultivation; aquaculture, focusing on marine fish cultivation; and strategies for youth engagement in agriculture.

On what is expected to be a successful collaboration, Jamaica and Guyana will be targeting increased agricultural opportunities for citizens, enhanced food security and economic growth in the region.
