Man seeking info arrested for cursing policeman

A Corporate area man who went to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday to get information on a court date he was uncertain about, found himself in custody after he hurled an expletive at a police officer, who had seemingly earned his wrath.

"I didn't know if my court date was today [Tuesday] or tomorrow [Wednesday] and I spoke to the person at the front, and they told me to go upstairs," said Nathan Lowe, whose mouth got him in trouble. "I said to the police, 'Good morning' and him say 'Tun round'."

Lowe, who was not pleased with what he considered the dismissive way the policeman dealt with him, admitted to using a popular Jamaican bad word to the officer, who was clearly not amused, and arrested and charged him.

"A suh unnu b********t talk to people?" Lowe recalled asking the police officer.

When Lowe was brought before presiding Judge Carlo Mason to answer to the charge of using indecent language, he pleaded guilty. Judge Mason was seemingly not pleased with the way Lowe handled the situation and used a popular Jamaican saying to rebuke him.

"They say it's not everything good fi eat, good fi talk and it looks like you ate your words," Judge Mason said to Lowe, who was fined $2,000 or 10 days imprisonment under the provisions of the Towns and Communities Act (1999).
