Man punches 12-y-o over Crocs
An argument over decoration on a pair of Crocs slippers, which turned physical at a football match in Kingston, has resulted in a man being placed on two years' probation for injuries inflicted on another man.
K'lanre Rowe, 20, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, when he appeared before Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell, on Thursday, in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. In what was a bizarre series of events, the court was told that on March 30, the complainant, a 12-year-old boy, was at a football match when Rowe approached him and asked him for a jibbitz, which was part of the decoration on his Crocs. The complainant refused Rowe's demand, and Rowe, punched the complainant in his face twice. A ring on his hand caused an injury to the boy's face.
"We deh a di ball field and me tell him me wah see the gem pon him shoes and him say no. Him start say me pendant fake and a bare fake chain me wear and me tell him fi stop talk dem way deh," Rowe told the. "Him drape me up first and me tump him."
"Hold on, is me alone this don't make any sense to?" asked the seemingly perplexed senior judge.
"That is the story you are going with ... that this young man drape you up? .... how you manage let that happen?" the judge asked.
"Him just a act so in here, him a big man. Anybody can drape you up," responded Rowe.
"Well, that is true, I stand corrected," the judge said.
Afer several questions from the judge, it was discovered that Rowe has not worked since December, albeit he indicated that he intended to secure employment at a welding company soon.
"Well that mean you would have no problem going to prison then?" the judge said to Rowe.
"I am going to give him a probation order because he is not working, and his body language is telling me all sort of things," the judge stated.
