Pregnant woman charged for hitting teen
A Corporate Area woman, who is five months pregnant, is currently before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, facing allegations that she physically assaulted a 13-year-old boy.
However, the woman, Sushaine Thomas, presented her defence that she was only defending her seven-year-old brother.
"Your Honour, my little brother came home from school wid a 'cocoa' (lump) and him face swell. Him say a likkle boy beat him up at the school. Him nuh have him school bag or him lunch bag. So me lef from our house and go round a the school, no teacher, no security guard. Him point out the likkle boy to me," Thomas related.
She said she approached the complainant and proceeded to query if he assaulted her brother.
"Him (the complainant) tek up a big stone and up inna me face. Him lick me inna me breast first Your Honour," Thomas shared of the alleged assault. She explained to Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell that she went to the police station to report the alleged assault by the 13-year-old when her concerns were shut down by the police.
"Them say him is a minor, him cannot be charged. That's what the policeman tell me," the accused said.
"Who told you that? It's either that policeman was ignorant or he was lazy. Someone needs to appreciate this woman's report and he (the boy) needs to be charged and placed before the Family Court," Burrell said.
The matter was referred to restorative justice and is to return to court on September 5, when the matter is set for mention.
