YouTuber MrBeast donates house to single mom
When Nyoka Bell learnt that her family would be moving out of their one-bedroom house with its leaking zinc roof, into a brand new two-bedroom home, courtesy of American YouTuber, entrepreneur and philanthropist MrBeast, the 41-year-old single mother was beyond elated.
With the hurricane season in full swing, this news came at the perfect time as the structure she was living in was in a deplorable condition.
"This is a blessing. It's a dream come true, because we did a guh through it. Mi a tell yuh seh if likkle rain fall, we in a problem, and on top a that, bay duck ants...and every time hurricane a come mi fret seh mi roof aguh blow off. But now we have a safe structure," Bell said, adding that her previous home also had no indoor plumbing.
"A outside bathroom we used to affi use. Suh mi feel real good now seh we nuh have dat deh problem deh nuh more; we have a nice bathroom inside," she said.
In 2021, Bell applied for a home from Food For The Poor and that was how she became eligible for consideration. On May 20, Bell and her family got to move into one of 26 fully furnished homes donated to Jamaica by MrBeast, whose given name is James Donaldson. In total, 100 homes were donated by MrBeast to less fortunate families in countries such as Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. Bell told THE STAR that her children are also excited to be having their own space.
"Dem nuh stop talk 'bout it and tell their friends; and their friends are so happy. Suh this mean a lot to me and mi family, because now we more comfortable, and mi kids them have them own space," Bell said, adding that her 12-year-old daughter has her own room in an attic space above, while her sons, ages four and six years old, share a room. This act of kindness will forever be etched in Bell's mind as her family's saving grace.
"We couldn't afford a structure and God made it possible, along with the Food For The Poor team and MrBeast, and we are so grateful. I just hope that for the sponsors that are on board, God will continue to bless them so that they can continue to give to others who are in need like ourselves," Bell said.
