Some 50 persons in Old Harbour, St Catherine have already gone to the emergency shelter at Old Harbour High School as they seek refuge from the potential impact of Hurricane Beryl.

Chairman of the St Catherine Parish Disaster Committee, Dr Kurt Waul, is urging other persons in flood-prone areas to seek shelter before it is too late.

Waul noted that the shelter is able to accommodate 100 people.

"I hope that all the people from the low-lying area of Old Harbour Bay will come from Dagga Bay, Terminal Road, and the general area to be here before it's too late," he said.

A woman said she decided to seek shelter based on experience.

"I have travelled from Buddo to be here, as I have suffered by Emily and others," Latoya Barrett said.
