In a move to recoup millions owed to it, the National Water Commission (NWC) has launched a crackdown on delinquent customers in the Oxford and Free Hill districts of St Mary.

Revenue Recovery Manager for the NWC's Northeast Region Shockera Miller Sharpe said "delinquent accounts will be targeted with balances totalling $35.5 million dollars."

"We implore our customers to take advantage of this opportunity as we have intensified efforts to address delinquent customers," Miller Sharpe warned, adding that court demand letters and property title caveats will be used as a last resort.

On the initiative's first day, Miller Sharpe reported good results: "We disconnected 17 accounts for non-payment, removed 14 illegal connections, and repaired five leaks. Three customers paid for reconnection, and one [resident] for regularisation."

Miller Sharpe reiterated the NWC's preference for collecting revenue over disconnecting services. "We encourage customers to visit our offices and make payments, as we would rather collect than disconnect."

The NWC is reminding customers that timely payments are crucial for effective service delivery.
