Son accused of vandalising father’s property
A St James man who reportedly damaged a car window and three security cameras at his father's house was remanded when he appeared in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, in order for a psychiatric evaluation to be done on him.
Duan Rose, 21, of a Farm Heights address, pleaded guilty to malicious destruction of property. Allegations are that on August 5 at 9:30 p.m., the complainant heard a noise at his front gate, and upon investigating, saw that Rose, who is his son, had stoned his motor car and damaged the vehicle's rear window. The complainant reported the matter to the police, and when he returned home, discovered that three security cameras installed on his house were damaged. The complainant told the court that the issue stemmed from Rose refusing to stop smoking ganja.
"This is his problem, he smokes too much, and I approached him concerning that issue. He got violent, and I just cannot talk to him, because he smokes," the father complained. But Rose accused his father of having assaulted him first.
"I picked two ackees off the tree and fling them up the road, and one of them lick the gate, and him come down in the yard and box me in my face ... and after him box me in my face, him start run me down with a stone. On that day I was not smoking ganja, so he is telling a lie, and I don't have any mental problem," said Rose.
But Judge Farclough-Hylton expressed concern for Rose's mental health, citing his constant fidgeting in the prisoner's dock.
"I hear him saying he does not have a mental problem, but his inability to stay still is a cause for concern. Sentencing is on November 6, and he is remanded in custody for psychiatric evaluation," said Fairclough-Hylton.
"What?" Rose shouted in disbelief, before police officers took him out of the courtroom moments later.
