District Officer for the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB), Westmoreland Division, Norris Mitchell, is imploring citizens to take care of the parish’s fire hydrants, as they are critical to the JFB’s firefighting process.

“Don’t cover them up; see how best you can take care of them, especially the one that is near to your premises,” he said.

Mitchell was addressing the monthly meeting of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation, in Savanna-la-Mar, recently.

He pointed out that the JFB’s building and hydrant maintenance in the parish is ongoing, adding that the JFB continues its public education activities in schools, communities, and churches.

Mitchell is encouraging citizens to reach out to the JFB should they need any information on fire safety.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that there will be a slate of events for the JFB’s upcoming Fire and Life Safety Awareness Week, which is being observed from October 27 to November 2.

The week of activities is being observed under the theme ‘Embracing Digital Innovation to Improve Fire Safety’.

Mr. Mitchell said the JFB is looking forward to the support and participation of the Municipality.

“We usually partner with the Municipal Corporation in our week of activities. When we go to these communities, they (councillors) are usually there with us, so I’m looking forward to them being there,” he said.

Among the activities will be a National Church Service on October 27 at the Swallowfield Chapel in Kingston; a series of expos hosted by each Area, showcasing various smart fire-safety devices and how they can be integrated into daily fire-safety practices, and a Firefighter’s Ball on Saturday, November 2, at Royalton Resort in Negril.
