Woman demands $1 million after ex posts nude pics
A Corporate Area woman's request to be compensated $1 million after her nude photos were posted online, was denied by Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell on Wednesday.
"I am not going to make a compensation order for $1 million. You will have to go elsewhere for that," the judge said. The dollar figure, according to prosecutors in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, was for the woman's pain and suffering as a result of the photos. Allegations are that the woman was in a romantic relationship with the defendant for two months, when it began to deteriorate. Following their separation, the defendant gained access to the woman's email and restricted her access. He then shared the illicit photographs of her with her friends. The name of the defendant, who was subsequently charged with malicious communication, will not be shared by THE STAR to protect the identity and safety of the complainant.
It was shared with the senior jurist that the matter was referred to restorative justice, where the complainant expressed her desire to be compensated $1 million. However, a counter offer of $100,000 was proffered by the defendant.
Burrell deemed the matter unsuccessfully mediated, and noted that given its nature, it is not a matter usually referred outside the court for intervention.
The matter was adjourned until November 26, when the attorney representing the defendant is to be present in court.
