Scammers impersonate commish
Scammers have been boldly impersonating the Commissioner of Police in a brazen scheme to swindle unsuspecting victims via WhatsApp.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has issued a serious warning about an elaborate con where criminals, pretending to be the country's top cop, attempt to lure individuals into their trap.
The fraudsters initiate a chat, claiming to be the commissioner, and quickly request urgent assistance to purchase items for a so-called "important cause." Victims are pressured to act fast and keep the transaction confidential--a classic scammer move.
But here's where it gets even shadier--if you try to call the number, the scammer claims the commissioner is "in a meeting" and can't talk.
The Police High Command said that neither the commissioner nor any other officer would ever solicit funds in this manner.
The public is urged to stay alert and never engage with these fraudsters.
