Woman killed, mother injured in Patrick City shooting, Husband wanted
Gunfire shattered the early morning calm in Patrick City, St Andrew, on Friday, leaving a young woman dead and her mother nursing gunshot wounds, just hours after they arrived home from the airport.
Police have identified the deceased as 26-year-old Maya Ashley. Her mother remains hospitalised after being wounded in the attack.
Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that about 4:45 a.m., the two women had just arrived at their Appleton Avenue home after Maya reportedly picked up her mother from the Norman Manley International Airport. Moments later, loud explosions were heard in the area.
Residents later discovered both women suffering from gunshot wounds. They were rushed to hospital, where Maya succumbed to her injuries. Her mother was admitted for treatment.
Investigators are now seeking the husband of the injured woman as part of ongoing probes into the deadly shooting.
Police sources have indicated that the attack may have been carried out by someone known to the victims, but several leads are still being actively pursued.
The Hunts Bay police are continuing their investigations.
